Windstorm destroys buildings in three Zamfara LGs

Several buildings were destroyed after a windstorm struck three Local Government Areas in Zamfara State on Monday.

The windstorm which affected several communities in the LGAs caused buildings to collapse.

The statement noted that security operatives were also deployed to work with NEMA team due to the high insecurity in the area.

Windstorm that occurred sporadically across different Local Government Areas of Zamfara State on June 3, 2024, NEMA alongside the Zamfara State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency carried out a joint assessment of the affected areas.

The windstorm affected communities in Tsafe, Maradun, and Mafara LGAs amongst others and pulled down buildings. The assessment was conducted with the heavy presence of security operatives due to the problem of insecurity,” the statement partly read.

The report came on May 31 that no fewer than 500 houses were affected following a windstorm that ravaged the Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
