Stop targeting us to advance your political career, says the APC to Jega.

The governing All Progressives Congress APC has advised Prof. Attahiru Jega, the former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, to stop criticizing her as part of his plans to further his political career.

Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, National Secretary of the APC’s Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee CECPC, issued a statement in response to Jega’s statements comparing the APC to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

Jega had labeled both parties as failures, asking Nigerians to switch allegiances to his Peoples Redemption Party PRP, which he claimed offers solutions to the country’s numerous problems.

“Our attention has been drawn to an uncontrolled, wrong, and an untenable political outburst by a former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, in which he lumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) with the failed People’s Democratic Party,” the statement reads (PDP).

“While the PDP failed to fulfill Nigerians’ expectations as a government and opposition party, the APC is flourishing, healthy, and actively cleaning up the huge mess left behind by the PDP, which failed to deliver democratic dividends to the people of Nigeria after 16 years in power.

“While Professor Jega is correct about the PDP, for which he served as Chairman of the nation’s election administration body, we disagree with his comparison of the APC to the PDP.

“In his false comparison of the PDP and the APC, Professor Jega got his facts incorrect and jumbled up.

“While we do not plan to discuss matters with Professor Jega, we do urge him to do real scholarly study and reach evidence-based judgments about the APC’s progressive direction.

“It is instructive, however, to note that having recently abandoned his academic pursuit and blindly entered the arena of PDP’s brand of politics, the former electoral umpire as a politician can occasionally make such political statements while attempting to launch his political career in a mushroom political party.
“The APC is a political unit that is powerful, unified, popular, and dedicated. As a result, the Professor should take heed of the political lesson that disparaging the APC would not provide him with a springboard to attain his goals. Nigerians are smarter and continue to be the final arbiters.”
