In 2020, a bold vision was born by Mazi Chigbo Joseph Anichebe to create a radio station that would not just inform and entertain, but also preserve, promote, and celebrate the Igbo language and culture. That vision became reality with the launch of Owelle FM, as Owelle Media Limited managed the first Nigeria’s first-ever radio station to broadcast entirely in the Igbo language.

Five years later, Owelle FM stands tall as a trailblazer in indigenous broadcasting. Breaking all bridges to emerge the 2023 winner of the best radio station in the South East in 2023 by South East Entertainment and Media Awards.

In a country where media is often dominated by English and Pidgin, Owelle FM broke new ground by giving the Igbo language its rightful place on the airwaves. It has become a trusted voice, a cultural beacon, and a home for millions of listeners who see their language and heritage reflected in every broadcast.
