THE BANE OF CORRUPTION IN NIGERIA  : BY MOSES NWEKWE

Corruption in Nigeria : According to biological field of study, an animal is a multicellular organism that is usually mobile, whose cells are not encased in a rigid cell wall and which derives energy solely from consumption of other organisms. In this definition, animal is quite distinguished from plant and fungi, which means, animal is any land-living vertebrate (human and nonhuman).

One of the outstanding distinctions between human and nonhuman animals is the security of lives of those human animals. Unlike in animal (nonhuman) kingdom, human life is sacred and no one has the right to cut off another person’s life.

In animal kingdom, lion being the strongest is the king of the jungle and as such; has every immunity (power) to descend on the life of any available weak animal.

In the quest to maintain the sanctity of human life, every society adopt an organized leadership structure with governmental power as the supreme power and authority hence, the primary aim of government is security of lives and property.

A society without security of lives and property is just an animal (nonhuman) kingdom and anybody or group claiming to be government of such society is making mere dream because anarchy has already taken over the society.

This takes me to the burning issue in our beloved country Nigeria today. The current news in the nation is insecurity; resulting to killings, destruction of property, kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, attacks on security agents, communal clashes, etc in almost every corner of Nigeria.

In all these wanton security challenges, government seems as not taking enough drastic and proactive actions in stemming the tides of the menace. Our government in Federal, States and Local government levels have woefully failed to deal decisively with corruption which is one of the major causes of our problem in the country.

CORRUPTION NIGERIA

CORRUPTION NIGERIA

War against corruption in Nigeria is best fought on the pages of Newspapers and propagandous news of many over-censored broadcast media (Television and Radio). Corruption is the bedrock of bad governance such as ; embezzlement of public funds, joblessness, nepotism, tribalism, bigotry, among other vices.

When all the above mentioned corruptible activities become the order of the days in a society people, mostly youths normally resort to violent agitation and restiveness which amounts to insecurity.

Our government at all levels should come up with drastic and proactive measures in tackling all forms of corruption in Nigeria and as well engage Nigerian youths with meaningful skills and job opportunities.

It is high time our leaders see and welcome every Nigerian as one, irrespective of tribe, religion, culture and political affiliation.

Therefore, this is the right time for Nigerian politicians to wholeheartedly say no to corruption; say no to joblessness; say no to nepotism, tribalism, bigotry, embezzlement for better Nigeria of our dream.

God bless Ndigbo!
God bless Nigerians!!
